Eggs, artistic side up
Their canvas is an eggshell. Acute skill and patience mean their elaborate creations can feature intricacies that bedazzle and seem to defy what is possible in miniature scale. Known as “eggers,” many such will gather for the California Egg Artistry Show & Sale. Now in its 26th year, the event provides a venue for artworks fashioned with paints, glazes, carving and sculpting tools, and a plethora of other implements. A large ostrich egg might provide the space for an Italian street scene with a working fountain, while the thumbnail-sized finch eggs and others still smaller are commonly filigreed as well.
California Egg Artistry Show & Sale, Hyatt Westlake Plaza, 880 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday $5. (310) 273-5096.
* Also 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
