Gerald ‘Jerry’ Klein, 66; Veteran Teacher, Spokesman for Schools
Gerald “Jerry” Klein, 66, veteran teacher and spokesman for Redondo Beach Unified and other school districts, died March 7 in Rancho Palos Verdes after a stroke.
From 1997 until budget cuts forced his retirement in 2003, Klein served as director of special projects and the first public information officer for the Redondo Beach district. He had been a consultant for two years with the Los Angeles County Department of Education.
Born in Sleepy Eye, Minn., and educated at the University of Minnesota, he began his career in education in 1967 as an English teacher at Mira Costa High School, which was then a part of the South Bay Union School District.
By 1986, he had become educational advisor at Mira Costa High, and in 1988 was named principal. He was with Redondo Union High School from 1990 to 1995.
