Girl, 16, Arrested in Attack on Woman, 75
A 16-year-old Oakland girl suspected of slashing an elderly woman’s throat Wednesday was arrested Friday night.
The 75-year-old victim was walking home from a film class at UC Berkeley with her husband when two teenage girls approached, police said. The husband stepped aside to let them pass. As his wife continued walking, one of the girls grabbed her around the neck and slashed her throat with a butcher knife.
The knife narrowly missed her veins and trachea. She was expected to be released from the hospital by today. Tips from the public led to the suspect, police said.
