Loyola Rolls Past BYU

Matthew Knight scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Loyola Marymount to an 83-71 season-opening victory over Brigham Young at Provo, Utah, and give Coach Rodney Tention a win in his debut.

BYU led from the opening tip until five minutes were left in the half as Knight led Loyola on a 15-0 run to take 41-30 halftime lead.

Wes Wardrop scored 19 points for Loyola.

UC Santa Barbara 82, San Francisco 59 -- Chris Devine and Joe See each scored 17 points and combined for seven three-point baskets to lead the host Gauchos to a season-opening win.

Nevada Las Vegas 108, Long Beach State 73 -- Michael Umeh scored 21 points and Ricky Morgan had 19 to lead the host Rebels in their opener.

WOMEN

In season openers: Lorie Butler-Rayford scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures for Texas Christian in a 70-67 overtime win at Fort Worth over Long Beach State, which got a game-high 23 points from Karina Figueroa.... Jasmina Ilic and Jackie McFarland each scored 34 points to lead Colorado to a 100-71 victory at Boulder, Colo., over Cal State Fullerton. Dayana Frias scored 16 points for the Titans.... Charmaine Jones scored 19 points to lead Washington State to a 66-57 win at Pullman, Wash., over Pepperdine, which was led by Sherriel Boyd’s 13 points.... Kemie Nkele scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead host UC Riverside to a 63-56 victory over San Diego.... Amy Parrish scored 20 points and Paige Diggs made 12 of 13 free throws to lead Fresno State to a 93-84 win at UC Irvine.... Arizona outscored Loyola Marymount by four points in each half in a 74-66 victory at Tucson.
