Motorist, 18, Arrested After Deadly Accident
Police arrested the 18-year-old driver of a car that plunged off a rural road Saturday and slammed into trees, killing three of four passengers.
A 1995 Chevy Camaro driven by Louie James Leon of Santa Maria went out of control about 8 a.m., crossed into oncoming traffic and hurtled over a raised embankment, Santa Maria police said.
The passengers, all minors, were thrown from the vehicle, police said. Two were pronounced dead at the scene and the others were taken to an area hospital, where one died.
The condition of the surviving passenger was not immediately known.
Leon ran away but was taken into custody a short distance from the scene, authorities said.
