Movie profits have little to do with politics

Please tell me you are joking, Brian Anderson. How does your culturally and morally conservative movie explanation fit for the success of “Saw II”? “Kill Bill” (both volumes)? The high-grossing movies Anderson names have other things in common, mainly that they are all based in fantasy. In the case of “Spider-Man,” “Lord of the Rings” and the upcoming “Chronicles of Narnia,” they are all based on stories that most people are familiar with and love, be it from their childhood or present. To link this to a conservative vs. liberal debate is just plain silly.

I agree with Anderson’s column on one point only: Very few movies Hollywood makes are worth going to. But it has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with quality. As a liberal who goes to two or three movies a year (maybe), I am perennially put off by poor writing, superstar posturing and uninteresting plotlines.

What a crock! There is no left and right about the movies. My friend is conservative. I’m a liberal Republican who agrees with many Democrat issues. However, we like the same movies. We do not like the loud levels of sound in some theaters, the violence and the tons of commercials that have appeared in recent years. We feel that the current movie trend is detrimental to our young people.
