Garcetti Will Become Council Chief on Jan. 1

Councilman Eric Garcetti was unanimously elected Tuesday to replace Alex Padilla as the City Council president Jan. 1.
Garcetti collected enough votes to oust Padilla, but the two men agreed last week to avoid a controversy and transfer power peacefully by holding the vote.
Padilla has been council president since July 2001.
