Fatal Beating Suspect Granted $250,000 Bail
From Times Wire Reports
A judge set bail at $250,000 for one of two men accused of beating a University of Illinois-Chicago student to death with his own bicycle lock.
Mantas Matulis, 20, had been held without bail since July when his co-defendant failed to show up for a court appearance. Muaz Haffar, 21, remains a fugitive.
Cook County Judge Stanley Sacks said that Haffar’s flight should not affect Matulis’ bail. He said Matulis did not have a criminal record and prosecutors did not prove he was a danger to the community.
