IDT Enlists Executive for Genre Films
In a bid to build a fully integrated studio, IDT Entertainment has tapped veteran Hollywood executive Chris McGurk to help develop a live-action theatrical arm.
IDT, owner of “The Simpsons” producer Film Roman Inc., said it hired McGurk to advise the company on producing and distributing a slate of low-budget genre movies.
McGurk, most recently vice chairman of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and a veteran Universal Pictures and Walt Disney Co. executive, is expected to run the new division once it is launched in the next two years.
“It’s really a great platform to help build something and take it to the next level,” McGurk said.
The hire marks an effort by IDT, a subsidiary of a New Jersey telecommunications company, to expand in entertainment.
The company, which has 400 employees in Los Angeles, owns home video distributor Anchor Bay Entertainment.
