Off-Duty Deputy Arrested in Accidental Killing
An off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Sunday on suspicion of accidentally killing a fellow Marine reservist in Upland, police said.
Chris Sullivan, 24, was booked on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and held at the West Valley Detention Center after Cesar Valdez, also 24, was found shot once in the head, according to police reports.
Sullivan had returned from duty in Iraq on Thursday.
Upland police responded to the early morning shooting to find Valdez lying in a driveway. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Further details were not available. Upland police are continuing to investigate.
