Why can’t we all follow the same standards?
People who talk about Mexicans not learning English apparently have never encountered employees at Chinese or Thai restaurants, at gas stations, at the cleaners, at liquor stores, or cab drivers. We have Vietnamese neighborhoods, Armenian neighborhoods, Japanese neighborhoods, Chinese neighborhoods, Russian neighborhoods, Jewish neighborhoods, Filipino neighborhoods and specialty markets providing their food. Once they are here, whether legally or not, shouldn’t the standards for assimilation be the same?
