ROUNDUP
at Florida 4, New York 1: Dontrelle Willis (7-8) pitched eight innings and bested Pedro Martinez. The Marlins, projected to lose 100 games, are only four games behind National League wild-card leaders Cincinnati and Arizona. Florida won two of three games from the NL East-leading Mets. Joe Borowski pitched a perfect ninth for his 22nd save in 25 chances.
at San Diego 5, Houston 2: Adrian Gonzalez had three hits and three runs batted in to help the Padres end a three-game losing streak. San Diego (56-52) remained in first place in the NL West. Clay Hensley (7-8) picked up the victory after giving up one run and four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out four.
at Pittsburgh 3, Atlanta 2: Shawn Chacon limited the Braves to one run in five innings to win his Pittsburgh debut. Chacon (1-0), a 19-1 loser to Cleveland in his last start for the Yankees on July 4, gave up Andruw Jones’ run-scoring double in the first but allowed only one more hit before being lifted after throwing 79 pitches on a 90-degree day.
Arizona 10-3, at Chicago 2-7: The Cubs earned a split of the doubleheader behind Matt Murton, who tied a league record with four doubles and also drove in five runs in the nightcap. Murton’s four doubles also tied a team record, which has been accomplished four times, the most recent being Hall of Famer Billy Williams on April 9, 1969. The Diamondbacks won the opener behind Stephen Drew’s four RBIs. Arizona split the four-game series and could have moved into first place in the NL West with a sweep.
