650,000 Are Estimated to Have HIV/AIDS
From Times Wire Reports
China revised downward the number of people in the country living with HIV, but health agencies warned that with 70,000 new infections last year, there was no room for complacency.
By the end of 2005, China had about 650,000 people infected with HIV, 75,000 of whom had full-blown AIDS, according to a study by the World Health Organization, China’s Health Ministry and the U.N. AIDS agency.
WHO official Henk Bekedam said the infection rate showed the situation was “more serious than we thought.”
