An inspiring life
Fayard Nicholas (obituary, Jan. 26) was a diminutive man but an artistic giant who has taken his place among the immortals. He had few peers in American dance and took a backseat to no one.
He lived modestly and made his way through a bigoted era with a quiet dignity, missing out on the monetary rewards that were his due.
Perhaps our supposedly great nation will treat future living masters in a less shabby fashion. His Kennedy Center honors were richly deserved, and his life should inspire everyone.
