English tradition preserved

This fudge-thick old-fashioned marmalade has a rich, winy orange flavor and a refreshing bitter edge. E. Waldo Ward & Son of Sierra Madre has been making it for the last 88 years from Seville oranges -- the traditional variety for English marmalade -- grown in its own orchards. Like all of Ward’s jams and marmalades, it’s sweetened with sugar rather than corn syrup, so don’t keep it in the refrigerator or it will crystallize.

E. Waldo Ward Seville Orange Marmalade, 10 ounces for $4.10 at the cannery, 273 E. Highland Ave., Sierra Madre, by phone at (626) 355-1218 or online at www.waldoward.com.
