China’s military
The May 24 article, “Chinese Threat Is Expanding, Pentagon Says,” is disturbing. It appears that China’s military buildup is contradictory to its own proclamation that it is peacefully rising. China’s military investment in missiles may seem to focus primarily on Taiwan, but the report alludes to Chinese military goals that go far beyond Taiwan. This makes China a highly potential military competitor with the U.S.
China needs to adequately explain its military expansion and goals even as it modernizes its forces. If not, other nations will undoubtedly misunderstand, and it will lead to instability and an arms race in the Asia-Pacific region.
