Brodeur, Devils Stop Hurricanes
Zach Parise scored twice and Brian Gionta had three assists to lead the New Jersey Devils past the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-0, on Friday night at Raleigh, N.C., sending the Stanley Cup champions to a second consecutive home loss to open the season.
Martin Brodeur made 29 saves for his 81st career shutout and 447th victory, moving him into a tie for third place all-time with Terry Sawchuk.
Vancouver 3, Columbus 2 -- Daniel Sedin tied the score in the closing minutes of regulation, then scored off a rebound 31 seconds into overtime for the Canucks at Columbus, Ohio.
Buffalo 5, Montreal 4 -- Maxim Afinogenov forced overtime with 15 seconds left in regulation and then scored in a shootout, rallying the Sabres at Buffalo, N.Y.
Florida 8, Boston 3 -- Todd Bertuzzi had a goal and three assists -- his first four-point night since Feb. 25, 2003 -- in his Panthers debut at Sunrise, Fla.
