Cheerleader Coach Held on Drug, Sex Allegations
A cheerleading coach was in custody after he was arrested this week, accused of giving Ecstasy to a 16-year-old student and engaging in unlawful sex with a minor. Jonathon Rios, 27, is charged with four felony counts: furnishing a controlled substance to a minor, statutory rape, oral copulation, and sodomy with a person 16 or younger.
Rios and his wife operate Club Cheer Twisters, a cheerleader training facility.
Rios, held in lieu of $100,000 bail, is to be arraigned Oct. 26.
“He was supposed to be her coach and mentor, and this was a total breach of trust,” said Senior Deputy Dist. Atty. Maeve Fox. Rios’ attorney, Paul Takakjian of Los Angeles, declined to comment on the case.
