Engram Is Out Indefinitely
Bobby Engram, leading receiver of the Seattle Seahawks, will sit out at least Sunday’s game at St. Louis because of a thyroid condition.
It is not known when Engram, who on Friday rested at home for the third consecutive practice day, will return to the team. Coach Mike Holmgren said the 11-year veteran’s condition is causing an accelerated heart rate and fatigue. Engram, 33, will have more tests in about a week.
Holmgren said team doctors did not know whether Engram’s condition was caused by a virus or perhaps by Graves’ disease -- a treatable autoimmune condition. Holmgren stressed that the team expected Engram to be back soon.
“It’s very treatable,” Holmgren said. “Every indication I am getting is, he’s on medication [and] after he goes through this series of meds, he should be OK. It’s not an unusual thing. This is not rare; this is not off the charts. So please don’t make it any more than that, because it’s not.”
