The Killers, looking to mix it up
The Killers’ second album, “Sam’s Town,” recently passed the million-sales mark, and though it hasn’t become the kind of ubiquitous chart-searing collection that its predecessor, “Hot Fuss,” was, it’s not a bad price to pay for a fairly radical change of musical direction and a more ambitious and personal approach to songwriting. When the new anthems and the old hook-spiked hits get mixed up in concert, as they should Monday at Staples Center, the Las Vegas band can still get the momentum rolling and the room rocking with the best of them.
The Killers, with Howling Bells and Solarcade, Staples Center, 1111 S. Figueroa St., L.A. 8 p.m. Monday. $29.50 to $45 (sold out). (213) 742-7340.
