Kupets adds to national titles
SALT LAKE CITY — Georgia’s Courtney Kupets won the vault Saturday night in the NCAA championships, adding another title to her all-around and team championships.
It was the fifth national championship for the sophomore. She won the vault with a score of 9.9188 simply by not making any major mistakes.
Kupets helped Georgia win its third straight NCAA championship and claimed her second consecutive all-around title along the way.
UCLA junior Tasha Schwikert finished tied for second in the uneven bars with Kupets with a score of 9.9125. Alabama’s Terin Humphrey won the event with a score of 9.9500.
The next-highest UCLA finisher was freshman Anna Li, who wound up ninth in the balance beam with a score of 9.7875.
Kupets also finished second in the floor exercise and tied for third with three others in the balance beam.
