Datsyuk, Zetterberg lift Detroit
Pavel Datsyuk scored off a rebound with 1 minute 24 seconds left and Henrik Zetterberg’s goal started a rally in Detroit’s 3-2 victory over the visiting San Jose Sharks on Saturday that tied the Western Conference semifinal series at one game apiece.
“Zetterberg and Datsyuk won us the game,” said Daniel Cleary, who scored the tying, short-handed goal.
Joe Thornton had a goal and an assist in the first 4:17, and San Jose held the two-goal lead until Zetterberg scored late in the first period. It took Detroit nearly 13 minutes to get a shot.
San Jose had two power plays midway through the final period but took only one shot on the first opportunity and three on the second.
Detroit’s Dominik Hasek made 17 saves, and Evgeni Nabokov stopped 19 shots.
New Jersey 3, Ottawa 2 -- Jamie Langenbrunner scored on a breakaway 1:55 into the second overtime to lift the Devils at East Rutherford, N.J., and give them a split of the first two games in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Langenbrunner picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, fought off a hook from trailing defenseman Joe Corvo and shoved the puck past sprawled goalie Ray Emery.
The puck slipped between Emery’s pads as Corvo crashed into the net, knocking it off its moorings as Langenbrunner celebrated.
Martin Brodeur, who gave up all of Ottawa’s five goals in the first game, kept the Devils in this one. He finished with 43 saves to earn his 94th postseason victory, second to Patrick Roy’s 151.
