Airfare deals to get you going
Low-airfare sites seem to proliferate faster than red tide in a summer ocean. A new entry in a crowded field is Vayama.com. It focuses on international flights, offering “lowest prices and best schedule options,” plus fares “never previously available online,” according to its site.
What’s hot: I liked the “deals” section, where you can enter your departure airport and get a list of deals going to various parts of the world. I chose L.A., got back 24 deals, including one to Bangalore, India, on Malaysia Airlines for $800 plus tax and Beijing for $625 on Air Canada. Vayama has an easy-to-use calendar and spells out many restrictions in pop-up windows.
What’s not: That $800 fare? I couldn’t get it. I randomly tried three departure dates in August, November and October, and the lowest fare returned to me was $930 plus $364.40 in taxes on Malaysia for an Aug. 30 departure from LAX.
