- Seattle 7, at Minnesota 2: Adrian Beltre and Richie Sexson hit consecutive home runs and Jarrod Washburn won for the first time in seven starts as the Mariners won their fifth in a row. Jose Vidro had three of Seattle’s 18 hits. The Mariners, a season-high 19 games over .500, have hit 28 home runs in August.

- Boston 8, at Tampa Bay 6: Coco Crisp and Julio Lugo had two-run doubles during a five-run fourth inning for the Red Sox. Jon Lester (2-0) gave up five runs and four hits over 5 1/3 innings. Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect 1 1/3 innings, striking out three, for his 30th save in 32 opportunities. He became the first Red Sox pitcher to have at least 30 saves in two seasons.

- Oakland 6, at Toronto 4: Dan Haren (14-4) matched his career high in wins and Dan Johnson has two hits and two runs batted in for the Athletics. Frank Thomas homered twice for the Blue Jays, giving him 508 in his career.

- at Baltimore 6, Texas 2: Erik Bedard struck out 11 over seven innings to win his ninth straight decision and the Orioles got home runs from Miguel Tejada and Aubrey Huff. Bedard (13-4) increased his American League-leading strikeout total to 218, matching Mike Mussina’s club record in 1997. Bedard, who walked none and struck out at least one batter in every inning, has 26 strikeouts in two games against the Rangers this season.

- at Chicago 5, Kansas City 2: Jim Thome hit his 493rd home run and Javier Vazquez won his third straight decision for the White Sox.

- at Detroit 2, Cleveland 1: The Tigers moved to within half a game of the Indians in the Central Division.
