Deputy shot while serving a warrant
A Montebello man being served a warrant by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday reportedly shot a deputy and was subdued by a Sheriff’s Department dog, authorities said.
The department’s Pico Rivera gang unit was investigating an assault with a deadly weapon along with the special enforcement bureau that served a search warrant in the 900 block of Orcutt Drive about 6:30 p.m. when a male suspect began shooting from inside the house, said Sgt. Diane Hecht.
A 52-year-old special weapons deputy was hit in the upper body; he was taken to a hospital and was reported in stable condition, Hecht said.
The suspect was taken into custody with the help of a law enforcement dog. Hecht could not confirm if the suspect had been bitten, but said he was taken to a hospital before being booked. He was booked on attempted murder on a peace officer, Hecht said.
A second man was detained by authorities in the Montebello residence late Wednesday night.
