Crash victim dies of burns
A passenger who suffered third-degree burns in a crash early Saturday died of his injuries Sunday morning, police said. He was in an Infiniti struck by a speeding car.
The driver of the Infiniti died Saturday at the crash site on Sunset Boulevard and Highland Avenue, said Sgt. Ron Alberca of the Los Angeles Police Department. Police have not released the names of the two victims.
On Saturday, police arrested Carlos Steven John, 21, of Los Angeles on suspicion of murder. His bail is set at $1 million. Police said John was under the influence of alcohol while racing his BMW against another BMW east on Sunset just after 4 a.m. He collided with the Infiniti and a Saturn Ion behind it as both were turning on a green light.
The Infiniti burst into flames, killing the driver, police said. The passenger was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The driver of the Ion, a 28-year-old San Fernando woman, was treated for minor scrapes.
Police said they were looking for the driver of the second BMW.
