The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq or who died in Bahrain or at sea while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Brian D. Allgood, 46, of Oklahoma; colonel, Army. Allgood was among 12 troops killed Jan. 20 when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Baghdad. The cause was under investigation, but Pentagon officials said the helicopter might have been hit by a shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile. Allgood, the top Army surgeon in Iraq, was assigned to the 30th Medical Brigade, European Regional Medical Command in Heidelberg, Germany.

Jeffrey D. Bisson, 22, of Vista, Calif.; specialist, Army. Bisson was among four soldiers killed Jan. 20 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Karmah, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Darryl D. Booker, 37, of Midlothian, Va.; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. Booker was among 12 troops killed Jan. 20 when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 29th Infantry Division in Sandston, Va.

Russell P. Borea, 38, of El Paso; sergeant first class, Army. Borea was killed Jan. 19 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee in Mosul, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Bliss, Texas.

John G. Brown, 43, of Little Rock, Ark.; sergeant first class, Army National Guard. Brown was among 12 troops killed Jan. 20 when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 185th Aviation Regiment (Air Assault), 77th Aviation Brigade at Camp Robinson, Ark.

Nicholas P. Brown, 24, of Huber Heights, Ohio; specialist, Army. Brown was killed Monday when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee in Mosul, northwest of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Bliss, Texas.

Keith A. Callahan, 31, of McClure, Pa.; sergeant first class, Army. Callahan was killed Wednesday when a roadside bomb exploded near him while on patrol south of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

David C. Canegata, 50, of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; lieutenant colonel, Army National Guard. Canegata was among 12 troops killed Jan. 20 when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the Virgin Islands Army National Guard in Christiansted, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Luis J. Castillo, 20, of Lawton, Mich.; lance corporal, Marine Corps Reserve. Castillo was killed Jan. 20 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division in Lansing, Mich.

Johnathon B. Chism, 22, of Gonzales, La.; specialist, Army. Chism was among four soldiers who were abducted Jan. 20 from a provincial security building in Karbala, south of Baghdad, handcuffed and shot by gunmen who left them dead or dying in a neighboring province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 377th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Jason J. Corbett, 23, of Casper, Wyo.; specialist, Army. Corbett was killed Jan. 15 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Karmah, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Nathan P. Fairlie, 21, of Candor, N.Y.; private first class, Army. Fairlie was killed Friday when a roadside bomb exploded near his Bradley fighting vehicle in Baqubah, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Falter was among four soldiers who were abducted Jan. 20 from a provincial security building in Karbala, south of Baghdad, handcuffed and shot by gunmen who left them dead or dying in a neighboring province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 377th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Sean P. Fennerty, 25, of Corvallis, Ore.; sergeant, Army. Fennerty was among four soldiers killed Jan. 20 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Karmah, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Brian S. Freeman, 31, of Temecula; captain, Army Reserve. Freeman was killed Jan. 20 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire and mortars at a provincial security building in Karbala, south of Baghdad. Four other soldiers were abducted in the attack, handcuffed and killed. Freeman was assigned to the 412th Civil Affairs Battalion in Whitehall, Ohio.

Jacob N. Fritz, 25, of Verdon, Neb.; first lieutenant, Army. Fritz was among four soldiers who were abducted Jan. 20 from a provincial security building in Karbala, south of Baghdad, handcuffed and shot by gunmen who left them dead or dying in a neighboring province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 377th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

Marilyn L. Gabbard, 46, of Polk City, Iowa; command sergeant major, Army National Guard. Gabbard was among 12 troops killed Jan. 20 when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Baghdad. She was assigned to Joint Forces Headquarters, Camp Dodge in Johnston, Iowa.

Sandra S. Grant, 23, of Linwood, N.C.; seaman, Navy. Grant died of natural causes Dec. 31 while serving aboard the aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower in the Arabian Sea in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Roger W. Haller, 49, of Davidsonville, Md.; command sergeant major, Army National Guard. Haller was among 12 troops killed Jan. 20 when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 70th Regiment, Regional Training Institute-Maryland in Reisterstown, Md.

Ryan J. Hill, 20, of Keizer, Ore.; private first class, Army. Hill was killed Jan. 20 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.

Allen B. Jaynes, 21, of Henderson, Texas; private first class, Army. Jaynes was killed Jan. 20 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Gary S. Johnston, 21, of Windthorst, Texas; sergeant, Marine Corps. Johnston was killed in combat Tuesday in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan.

Michael M. Kashkoush, 24, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; sergeant, Marine Corps. Kashkoush was killed in combat Tuesday in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Intelligence Battalion, 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan.

Paul M. Kelly, 45, of Stafford, Va.; colonel, Army National Guard. Kelly was among 12 troops killed Jan. 20 when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the Joint Force Headquarters of the Virginia Army National Guard in Blackstone, Va.

Mark D. Kidd, 26, of Milford, Mich.; corporal, Marine Corps Reserve. Kidd was killed by a sniper Thursday in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division in Mount Clemens, Mich.

Jonathan Kingman, 21, of Nankin, Ohio; sergeant, Army. Kingman was killed Jan. 20 when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle in Bayji, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 41st Engineer Company, 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division at Ft. Riley, Kan.

Floyd E. Lake, 43, of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. Lake was among 12 troops killed Jan. 20 when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the Virgin Islands Army National Guard in Christiansted, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Victor M. Langarica, 29, of Decatur, Ga.; corporal, Army. Langarica was among 12 troops killed Jan. 20 when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 86th Signal Battalion at Ft. Huachuca, Ariz.

Jane E. Lanham, 43, of Owensboro, Ky.; lieutenant commander, Navy. Lanham died of natural causes Sept. 19 in Bahrain, where she was assigned to the Naval Branch Health Clinic in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Hector Leija, 27, of Houston; staff sergeant, Army. Leija was killed in combat Wednesday in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Sean E. Lyerly, 31, of Pflugerville, Texas; captain, Army National Guard. Lyerly was among 12 troops killed Jan. 20 when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 36th Combat Aviation Brigade, 36th Infantry Division in Austin, Texas.

Andrew G. Matus, 19, of Chetek, Wis.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Matus was one of two Marines killed in combat Jan. 21 in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Roger A. Napper, 20, of Greensburg, Pa.; petty officer third class, Navy. Napper was killed Oct. 7 in a motor vehicle accident in Bahrain, where he was assigned to Mobile Security Squadron 3 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Jacob H. Neal, 23, of San Marcos, Texas; corporal, Marine Corps Reserve.

Neal was killed in combat Jan. 19 in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Toby R. Olsen, 28, of Manchester, N.H.; specialist, Army. Olsen was among four soldiers killed Jan. 20 when a roadside bomb exploded near their Humvee in Karmah, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.

William J. Rechenmacher, 24, of Jacksonville, Fla.; specialist, Army. Rechenmacher was killed Jan. 18 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Humvee in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Emilian D. Sanchez, 20, of Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Sanchez was one of two Marines killed in combat Jan. 21 in Al Anbar province, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Brandon L. Stout, 23, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; specialist, Army National Guard. Stout was killed Monday when a projectile exploded near his vehicle in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 46th Military Police Company in Kingsford, Mich.

Michael V. Taylor, 40, of North Little Rock, Ark.; major, Army National Guard. Taylor was among 12 troops killed Jan. 20 when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 185th Aviation Regiment (Air Assault), 77th Aviation Brigade at Camp Robinson, Ark.

Jennifer A. Valdivia, 27, of Cambridge, Ill.; petty officer first class, Navy. Valdivia was found dead Jan. 16 at her home in Bahrain, where she was assigned to the naval security force in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

William T. Warren, 48, of North Little Rock, Ark.; first sergeant, Army National Guard. Warren was among 12 troops killed Jan. 20 when their Black Hawk helicopter crashed northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 185th Aviation Regiment (Air Assault), 77th Aviation Brigade at Camp Robinson, Ark.

Michael J. Wiggins, 26, of Cleveland; staff sergeant, Army. Wiggins died of a noncombat-related injury Tuesday in Balad, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 79th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.

Jamie D. Wilson, 34, of San Diego; staff sergeant, Army. Wilson was shot and killed Monday while on guard duty in Fallouja, west of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry Regiment (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Ft. Richardson, Alaska.
