* at Kansas City 17, Philadelphia 5: Mark Grudzielanek homered and tied his career high with five RBIs. Grudzielanek hit a two-run home run off Phillies starter Jamie Moyer for a 4-2 lead in the third. Then in the sixth, after Ryan Howard’s home run had pulled the Phillies to within a run, he poked a two-run single into right field off Ryan Madson to make it 8-5.

* at Arizona 5, Boston 1: Randy Johnson gave up one run in six innings and three relievers did the rest as the Diamondbacks beat Daisuke Matsuzaka and the Red Sox.

* Oakland 2, at San Francisco 0: Marco Scutaro homered to break up a scoreless game in the eighth inning and the Athletics shut out the Giants for the second straight day to complete a three-game sweep.

* Seattle 4, at San Diego 3: Trevor Hoffman gave up an unearned run in the ninth inning and the Mariners completed a three-game sweep of the NL West leaders.

* at Minnesota 6, Washington 3: Torii Hunter had three hits and Jason Bartlett broke out of a slump with two RBIs, and the Twins avoided being swept at home for the first time by a National League team since interleague play began in 1997.

* at Cincinnati 1, Cleveland 0 (12 innings): Alex Gonzalez’s run-scoring single in the 12th inning gave the Reds the win in the second consecutive extra-inning game between the two Ohio rivals. Pinch-hitter Chad Moeller started the rally with a one-out double, and Edwin Encarnacion was walked intentionally. The teams played 23 innings in less than 24 hours. The Indians won 8-6 in 11 innings Saturday night.

* at New York Yankees 13, Pittsburgh 6: Alex Rodriguez homered twice and drove in five runs, Bobby Abreu was four for four with three RBIs and the Yankees won their sixth in a row. The resurgent Yankees set a season high for runs in winning for the ninth time in 11 games.

* at Detroit 15, New York Mets 7: Gary Sheffield contributed to one of Tom Glavine’s worst outings with a homer and a run-scoring triple. Glavine (5-4) gave up nine earned runs for only the second time in his career.

* Colorado 6, at Baltimore 1: Ryan Spilborghs homered twice and drove in a career-high six runs and Jason Hirsh won for the first time in nine starts.

* at Chicago White Sox 6, Houston 3: Mark Buehrle pitched eight strong innings for the 100th victory of his career and the White Sox ended a five-game losing streak.

* at Atlanta 5, Chicago Cubs 4: In the only National League game Sunday, Willie Harris scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by Ryan Dempster with two out in the eighth. Cubs starter Ted Lilly was ejected in the first inning after hitting Edgar Renteria with a pitch, causing the benches and bullpens to empty. Later in the inning, Renteria smacked Cubs second baseman Mike Fontenot in the face with his right arm while stealing second. The teams stayed calm after the play, and it was peaceful the rest of the night.

* Milwaukee 9, Texas 6 (12 innings): Geoff Jenkins hit a three-run homer in the 12th inning and the Brewers ended a three-game losing streak. Prince Fielder connected for his NL-leading 23rd home run as the Brewers finished with a season-high 22 hits.

* Tampa Bay 9, at Florida 4: Rookie Andy Sonnanstine struck out 10 and got the first victory of his career, and Brendan Harris had a career-high five RBIs.

* at St. Louis 9, Angels 6: Albert Pujols had two home runs and five RBIs and former Angel David Eckstein got his 1,000th hit in the Cardinals’ victory.

* Toronto 11, at Dodgers 5: Roy Halladay settled down after a rocky start to earn his sixth victory, and Troy Glaus had two homers to help beat the slumping Dodgers.
