Playing for the first time in Babe Ruth’s first major-league ballpark, Barry Bonds failed to gain ground on Hank Aaron despite a long fly ball that was inches foul of being No. 748.

* Atlanta 5, at Cleveland 4: Yunel Escobar’s two-run double in the ninth inning lifted the Braves. Casey Blake extended his hitting streak to 24 games with a home run in the eighth for the Indians.

* Detroit 12, at Philadelphia 8: Jeremy Bonderman (7-0) started the Tigers’ five-run fifth inning with his first hit in 21 career at-bats, an infield single. Ivan Rodriguez drove in five runs for the Tigers.

* at Pittsburgh 4, Chicago White Sox 2: Paul Maholm (3-9) pitched seven innings of three-hit ball and ended a personal five-game losing streak and the Pirates won for only the fourth time in his 14 starts this season.

* Arizona 7, at Baltimore 3: Pinch-hitter Orlando Hudson hit a three-run homer to cap a five-run eighth inning. Chris Snyder also homered in the eighth for the Diamondbacks, who started the inning trailing, 3-0.

* at Toronto 7, Washington 2: Roy Halladay (7-2) won consecutive starts for the first time since April 24 and 30. He gave up two runs and seven hits in 7 1/3 innings, striking out six and walking one.

* Texas 7, at Cincinnati 6: Sammy Sosa ended an 18-game home run drought with his first grand slam since Sept. 15, 2004. It was his 599th homer.

* at Houston 5, Seattle 1: Wandy Rodriguez went 7 2/3 innings for the longest outing of his career. He retired 11 in a row from the second through fifth innings.
