Staying up late at the museum
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art kicks off ARTscape Weekend (free admission Thursday night through Sunday) with Late Night at LACMA, an annual party that brings in DJs, live music and other performers. Steve Aoki will be among the DJs, with Ima Robot and the Rebirth providing live sets and the Lucent Dossier Vaudeville Cirque bringing a touch of the L.A. underground to the proceedings -- which, not coincidentally, take place at the summer solstice. Expect the current exhibition of light-beam installations, “Dan Flavin: A Retrospective,” to get a steady stream of viewers. The evening also includes interactive art murals, book signings by authors Nick Pugh and Scott Robertson, and projections of John Waters’ “Hairspray,” among other fare.
“Late Night,” LACMA, 5905 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles. 7 p.m. Thursday to 3 a.m. Friday. Free with RSVP. (323) 857-6000; www.lacma.org/events/latenight07.html.
