Catholic Church shows cowardice
Re “San Diego Diocese files for bankruptcy,” Feb. 28
Such legal subterfuge by the San Diego Catholic Diocese represents the final act of cowardice in a pattern of evasion and denial practiced by the church in multiple locales. Deep disappointment lies in the fact that a subset of those designated to guide us through our faith are so misguided themselves, and those who lead them are determined to go to such great lengths to avoid acknowledgment of culpability.
This continuing sad saga reinforces the need for Catholics and non-Catholics alike to recognize the fact that the church is a human institution, overseen by men with human faults. The Catholic faith must transcend and, if necessary, outlive the institution of the Catholic Church.
