Wounded duck in good condition after surgery
From Times Staff Reports
A duck found stabbed in the back with a pocketknife was in good condition Monday after surgery to remove a 3-inch blade.
The duck, nicknamed Lucky by caregivers, is a 3-month-old mallard found at Huntington Central Park west of Goldenwest Street, said Lisa Birkle, assistant director of the Wetlands & Wildlife Care Center. Lucky was spotted with the wound Thursday but escaped capture until Sunday morning. The duck was put on antibiotics after surgery and could return to the park in two weeks, Birkle said.
