BUZZ BANDS

You’re an aspiring local rocker on lunch break at Bob’s Big Boy. A couple tables away, you notice Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age. What do you do? “I didn’t want to interrupt his lunch,” says singer-guitarist Karim Chatila, one half (with brother Kasey) of the Gasoline Angels (above). When Homme was in line to pay his check, though, Chatila handed off a copy of his album. Two months later, the brothers were invited to join QOTSA’s “Duluth Tour” as the opening act. “We couldn’t have thought up a better summer,” Karim says. “We were playing to crowds we never imagined.” Their melodic, bluesy post-grunge comes off big live, with the Chatilas playing over sequencers. They perform Monday at the Troubadour. ALSO BROTHERLY: Seattle trio the Blakes got their name when brothers Garnet and Snow Keim, busking their way down the West Coast, visited an exhibition on William Blake at the Huntington Library. The English artist-poet might have looked quizzically at the Blakes’ deliriously scuzzy brand of garage rock -- but maybe not. “We wanted to make a fun record,” bassist Snow says of the trio’s self-titled album on Light in the Attic. “A lot of artists seem to be looking for more emotional impact, but we just wanted to be fun.” With drummer Bob Husak, the trio plays Monday at the Echo and Wednesday at the Roxy.
