Voters will go to polls for various local races
Voters will go to the polls today in 83 jurisdictions in Los Angeles County to decide 11 ballot measures and 193 local offices.
No contests involving the entire county or city of Los Angeles are being held, but voters will participate in elections in eight community college districts, 48 elementary and high school districts, and 15 cities, along with various water, irrigation and library districts.
In all, 832 of the county’s roughly 5,000 established polling places will be open.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters can find their polling locations on the back cover of their sample ballots, by calling (562) 466-1323 or by going to www.lavote.net and clicking on the “polling place & sample ballot look up” link. It is too late to mail in ballots, but voters who had planned to vote by mail can drop off their ballots at the office of the Los Angeles County registrar-recorder/county clerk in Norwalk or at their local polling place by 8 p.m.
The only balloting in Orange County involves a few voters in a small portion of the Mt. San Antonio Community College District that extends into the county from Los Angeles County.
Throughout the state, voters will go to the polls in 43 of California’s 58 counties.
The most prominent election involves the mayor of San Francisco. Incumbent Gavin Newsom is expected to easily win a second term against a field of 11 challengers.
