In praise of nonprofit media donors

Please forward our hearty congratulations to Herbert and Marion Sandler for funding ProPublica, the new nonprofit investigative news organization. (“Putting their money into the right to know,” Nov. 19.) It is heartwarming to see private individuals stepping into the breach created by newspapers more interested in pleasing their shareholders than honoring their responsibilities to their readership.
