Plural marriage
Re “Jeffs may be put away for life, but polygamy’s at large in Utah,” Sept. 27
In the coverage of Warren Jeffs’ trial, The Times comments that the state feels it can do little to stop plural “marriages.” While I think polygamy is largely a sexist activity perpetuated by old men against women and the young, the state can step in to stop these multiple families from signing up for welfare and other public benefits, as they do now. Multiply if you must, but don’t ask the taxpayer to help pay for this ill-conceived (no pun intended) practice.
