Arizona guard Bayless declares for the draft

Arizona freshman guard Jerryd Bayless has declared himself available for the NBA draft.

Athletic department spokesman Tom Duddleston confirmed Bayless’ decision Saturday.

Bayless, who averaged a team-high 19.7 points, has signed with an agent, which means he can no longer play college basketball.

Louisville sophomore forward Earl Clark will skip his final two seasons of eligibility and enter the NBA draft.

Clark averaged 11.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots for the Cardinals (27-9). He averaged 14.5 points and 8.3 rebounds in Louisville’s four NCAA tournament games.

He is the second Louisville player to decide to leave early. Forward Derrick Caracter announced last week he would give up his final two seasons of eligibility.

Drake’s Keno Davis was selected national coach of the year by the Associated Press.

He and his father, Dr. Tom Davis, who won in 1987 at Iowa, became the first father and son to win the award.

Now that Mike Montgomery has taken over as coach at California, his first job is to convince Ryan Anderson, the Golden Bears’ leading scorer and rebounder, to return to Berkeley for his junior season.

Anderson declared his NBA intentions Thursday but hasn’t hired an agent.

“Ryan is staying at my house,” Montgomery cracked. “We’ve moved out of the master bedroom, and he’s in there. . . . I know everybody wants to go to the league.

“I really do think it should be later than sooner for most of them, but we’ll see what develops.”
