at Atlanta 11, New York 5: Kelly Johnson’s pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh inning broke open a close game. Johnson, the regular second baseman, didn’t start for the third consecutive game because of a sore right knee. With two out and the Braves leading, 5-3, he hit a 3-2 pitch from Jorge Sosa into the right-field seats.
at Milwaukee 5, San Francisco 4: Manny Parra, a 25-year-old left-hander, earned his first major league victory. He held the Giants hitless through five innings before giving up two runs in the sixth and leaving with a 3-2 lead.
at Cincinnati 4, Philadelphia 3: Nearly 15 years after being drafted by the Reds, Paul Bako helped them win a game with a bases-loaded infield single with one out in the ninth inning. Bako was drafted in 1993 then traded away by the Reds in November 1997. After playing for nine teams, he signed with the Reds as a free agent.
at Florida 7, Pittsburgh 3: Mike Jacobs hit a 417-foot grand slam to right-center off Paul Maholm to give the Marlins a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning. Former Dodger Mark Hendrickson got the win. He gave up three runs -- one earned -- and five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
at St. Louis 5, Washington 4: Adam Wainwright completed a dominating first time around for the Cardinals’ injury-depleted rotation, working eight strong innings. He also drove in a run.
Arizona 7, at Colorado 2: The Diamondbacks spoiled the unveiling of the Rockies’ NL championship banner. Chris Young hit two home runs and Brandon Webb limited them to five hits in seven innings.
at Chicago 9, Houston 7: Astros ace Roy Oswalt (0-2) yielded six runs -- five earned -- and 10 hits.
at San Diego 4, Dodgers 1: Jake Peavy improved to 10-1 against the Dodgers.
