A few tricks to flying overseas

Regarding “A $10,000 Lesson in Airline Policies,” Travel Insider, March 31: Only three hours connection time for an international flight departure after a five-hour flight from L.A.? That’s asking for trouble.

And most everybody knows that if you don’t show up for the first leg of a series of segments or a round trip booked on an airline, you’ll be canceled from the remainder, especially if you don’t bother to call the airline and let them know!

American Airlines’ answer doesn’t pass the smell test; the problem isn’t just the issue of travel but of timing. If it were truly the case that the airline was not responsible for the timing of the flight, then why do carriers even bother with schedules?

In the Lopilatos’ case, much could have been easily done by the airlines in question.
