2006 Clos de los Siete
The label of this juicy young red from Argentina reads “by Michel Rolland,” a controversial French wine consultant who, for this project, put together a group of Bordeaux wine families to invest in vineyards in the Andes foothills south of Mendoza. They’re making a Bordeaux- influenced wine in a gorgeous wine region.
The 2006 is a blend of 50% Malbec with 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah. Smooth and deep, it tastes of dark plums and sweet vanilla. Inky and very dry, with soft, supple tannins lurking beneath the fruit, Clos de los Siete is a great bottle of wine for the price, delicious with burgers or ribs.
