* SWIMMING: Michael Phelps, who has a couple of gold medals now, comes back for another. Natalie Coughlin, Katie Hoff and Aaron Peirsol are other headliners in the pool.

* WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: It’s the U.S. women’s turn to meet China. Diana Taurasi, Lisa Leslie, Candace Parker and Co. will probably have more difficulty than they did in the 40-point victory over the Czech Republic in the opener.

* BEACH VOLLEYBALL: The United States’ Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers are the gold-medal favorites, but they were upset in the opener. They try to bounce back against a Swiss team.
