Fire burns in Sierra foothills
SACRAMENTO — Firefighters were trying to slow a blaze that broke out in a thickly forested region of the Sierra foothills northeast of Sacramento.
The blaze started about 2 p.m. Saturday near the town of Oregon House in Yuba County, about 25 miles northeast of Marysville. It had burned about 90 acres by evening and destroyed an unoccupied trailer.
No injuries or evacuations were reported.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the U.S. Forest Service and local fire departments responded with helicopters, air tankers and more than a dozen fire engines.
State fire spokesman Daniel Berlant said the blaze’s cause was being investigated.
He warned campers and others who plan to be outdoors over the holiday weekend that fire danger remains high in Northern California.
