Violence against women deplored
Re “A war on women,” Opinion, Feb. 17
Perhaps the most disheartening aspect of this article is that it was written by a woman. I have encountered several articles detailing the unspeakable violence against the fairer, (physically) weaker sex, but can recall none that has been written by a man. We (read: women) cannot hope to win the battle against “femicide” abroad while our husbands and brothers at home stand silently and idly by.
Men, I beseech you: Do you not adore your mothers and sisters? Do you not love your wives and your daughters? Have you no compassion for another man’s female relatives? We need you. We cannot do this without you.

The juxtaposition of this article and “The miracle of melancholia” (Opinion, Feb. 17) was a bit peculiar. In reading the first, one is moved to ponder the unimaginable depths of terror and agony these victims experienced -- and then, the second article (which directly followed) blithely told us that it’s OK to feel bad sometimes because it stimulates artistic creativity.
