Want to meet some of the directors behind this year’s Golden Globe foreign-language-film nominees? Julian Schnabel (“The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”), Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud (“Persepolis”) and Cristian Mungiu (“4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days”) -- are slated to appear at the American Cinematheque’s Egyptian Theatre for a free panel discussion at 1 p.m. Saturday. (Ang Lee [“Lust, Caution”] and Marc Forster [“The Kite Runner”] won’t appear due to Golden Globes changes, the Cinematheque says.) And at the Aero, Schnabel will present his film tonight. . . . The Aero will also be swinging with a double “Tarzan” matinee Sunday. “Tarzan’s Greatest Adventure” from 1959 stars super-buff Gordon Scott. Rounding out the jungle fest is 1936’s “Tarzan Escapes,” starring Johnny Weissmuller as the man of loincloth and Maureen O’Sullivan as Jane (americancinematheque.com). . . . The UCLA Film and Television Archive’s first of its “First Mondays” offerings for the new year at the Billy Wilder Theatre is “Caramel,” Nadine Labaki’s 2007 comedy from Lebanon set at a Beirut beauty salon. It scored a hit last year at Cannes, and stars Gisele Aouad, above left, Joanna Moukarzel, Labaki and Yasmine Al Masri ( www.cinema.ucla.edu). . . . “Arthur Presents Two 93-Minute Films Involving Euphoriants,” at the Silent Movie Theatre on Monday, features the 1968 British film “Work Is a 4-Letter Word,” directed by Peter Hall and starring David Warner and Cilla Black, and the 1971 Milos Forman comedy “Taking Off,” with Buck Henry and performances from the Ike & Tina Turner Revue and a young Carly Simon and even younger Kathy Bates. Filmmaker Mike Mills, journalist-historian Paul Cullum and Arthur magazine editor Jay Babcock will participate in a panel discussion as part of the event (silentmovietheatre.com).
