Western Digital’s net income rises

Western Digital Corp, the world’s second-largest maker of computer disk drives, reported higher quarterly profit because of sales of consumer items that use its products.
Net income rose to $305 million, or $1.35 a share, for the fiscal second quarter ended Dec. 28, from $128 million, or 57 cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose to $2.2 billion from $1.43 billion. Western Digital shares rose 3.5% to $24.90.
Western Digital, based in Lake Forest, also has been selling more storage gear in retail stores.
