* at Cleveland 5, Tampa Bay 2: Jhonny Peralta drove in three runs and the Indians completed a four-game sweep of the Rays, who have lost seven games in a row and fell out of first place in the American League East. The Indians began the series having lost 10 games in a row, their worst streak since 1979, but outscored the Rays, 31-8.

* at Toronto 4, New York 1: A.J. Burnett (10-8) came within two outs of a shutout and Marco Scutaro hit a three-run home run. Jason Giambi spoiled Burnett’s shutout bid with a home run in the ninth, his 19th. B.J. Ryan induced Robinson Cano into a double-play grounder to record his 18th save.

* at Detroit 4, Minnesota 2: Justin Verlander (7-9) gave up two runs and four hits in seven innings, and the Tigers avoided a four-game sweep by the Twins. Verlander hasn’t given up more than two earned runs during his unbeaten streak, lowering his earned-run average from 5.05 to 4.15. Clete Thomas hit his first major league homer for the Tigers.

* at Texas 12, Chicago 11: Ian Kinsler extended his majors-best hitting streak to 25 games with three hits and drove in three runs for the Rangers, and teammate Michael Young had a two-run single to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. The White Sox had a season-high 22 hits.

* Seattle 4, at Kansas City 3: Adrian Beltre scored the go-ahead run on an error in the ninth inning, but the Mariners still entered the All-Star break with an AL-worst 37-58 record.

* at Boston 2, Baltimore 1: Daisuke Matsuzaka (10-1) pitched six scoreless innings and the Red Sox reclaimed the AL East lead.

* Angels 4, at Oakland 3: Erick Aybar’s infield single drove in the winning run with two out in the ninth inning.
