Re “They’ll take Manhattan,” July 20

As a resident of Manhattan Beach for more than 30 years, I was tickled to hear about all the professional athletes who have chosen to live here.

Residents have worked both in volunteer and paid positions over the decades to give our community some of the best schools, parks and community programs in the L.A. area.

Our high school, Mira Costa, is over 50 years old and needs rehabilitation. School bonds (which have been supported by citizens for many years) are helping us remodel classrooms but do not provide for a new athletic building.

It is such a blessing to know that these highly paid residents who are committed to athletics are now in our midst. To them I say, please step up and help Mira Costa build the gym it so badly needs.
