Disregarding the older patient

Re the July 21 My Turn on colonoscopies: Ms. Hawthorne, at age 80, has likely been retired and, therefore, not an active IGU (income generating unit) for some 15 to 20 years. In our youth-oriented, greed-driven society, she need look no further to find a reason for the change in standards of her medical care.

In fact, once one reaches age 60, it’s time to begin to watch out!
