Some lawmakers are calling for a federal probe of security measures at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory after a simulated terrorist attack resulted in the defeat of the facility’s guards and a theft of fake plutonium.

The laboratory, located 50 miles east of San Francisco, is the nation’s top nuclear weapons design facility.

Democratic Reps. John Dingell and Bart Stupak of Michigan said they want the Government Accountability Office to look into the Department of Energy’s handling of security at the facility considering the successful simulated terrorist attack in April.
