‘Noise’

Tim Robbins is hilarious in Henry Bean’s comedic drama, about an affluent New York City stockbroker turned self-styled noise pollution vigilante. David Owens (Robbins) has had it with the car alarms in the city, just like everybody else. Unlike anybody else, he decides to do something about it. Much to the dismay of his wife (Bridget Moynahan) and the city’s preening, arrogant mayor (William Hurt), he begins vandalizing cars, disabling their alarms and leaving behind calling cards that identify him as the Rectifier. An unexpectedly funny, philosophical little movie that takes on bigger questions about conformity and complacency, “Noise” is smart summer fun.
